Adoptions 1

Welcome to the Adoptions 1 page of the Republic of Georgia Dog Refuge. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs in need, providing them with a second chance at a happy and healthy life. Each dog has its own unique, often heartbreaking story of survival against the odds, but also a testament of resilience and the enduring capacity for love.

As a fully registered non-profit organization in Georgia and the United States, we are committed to ensuring these dogs get the love, care, and the safe homes they deserve. These wonderful four-legged friends are available to be adopted, or sponsored by our Guardian Angel program.

Just email us at admin@geodogs.org which dog you would like to adopt, let us know your location, and we will make travel arrangements. All dogs have been sterilized, vaccinated against rabies and DHPP, microchipped, and have passports.

If you prefer to sponsor, select the dog, the amount and frequency you would like to donate. Read on to discover their stories and learn how you could become part of their next, beautiful chapter.

Meet Boatsman

We found Boatsman abandoned in the Batumi city garbage dump eating leftover food from a trash bag. He had sarcoptic mange and had old scars on his muzzle and head. He might have been used as a bait dog. His back paws were mashed flat from perhaps a traffic accident. He dragged his semi-paralyzed hind legs as he walked. Since that time, Boatsman’s skin has completely, and although his back legs are stiff, he has regained strength and mobility from good nutrition. We give him homeopathic medicine and a joint supplement for arthritis, which really help. Otherwise, he is happy and enjoys his life with the other dogs, but sometimes has issues with males (both human and dog).

Meet Daisy

When we found Daisy, another small dog who might have been abandoned or lost by a tourist, she was eating trash and was soaking-wet from days in the rain. (Our city is the rainiest in the Black Sea region). She had an injured leg and was barely able to walk. She was often hostile to other dogs, due to the pain. Once her leg issue was resolved, her temperament improved. Her disposition is much calmer, she is more affectionate with humans, and she plays well with other dogs. Being in a safe environment has helped her true nature reveal itself.

Meet Mitzi

One of our smallest dogs is a black and white Rat Terrier, Mitzi. She showed up one day outside our apartment building near the beach. She seemed like a lost or abandoned lap dog, which sometimes happens to pets brought here by summer tourists.  We rescued her right after she had been hit by a car. One leg was hurt, so we immediately took her to the vet. Mitzi’s leg has healed completely, and she is healthy. She is funny, energetic, a great watch dog, and ready to have fun with a family in a new home

Meet Queenie

We heard this poor dog wailing in a nearby yard. We found her chained to a broken doghouse, with no food, water, or shade on a hot summer’s day, covered in motor oil. Her owner had thrown it on her, in the false belief that it would get rid of mange. Her eyes were red and swollen and the oil smell was tormenting her sensitive skin and nose. We took her home and bathed her several times, then tried to get the owner to surrender her. She was a valuable hunting and breeding dog. The owner finally agreed to sell her to us. At first, she was withdrawn around other dogs and only stayed by herself. Also, she couldn’t walk well because she had been chained up so long. Even though she was 12 years old, her previous owner had still been breeding her every 6 months, so we got her fixed to protect her health. With love, companionship, food, and all the water she can drink, she has blossomed. Now she is outgoing and confident, and ready for a loving home.

Meet Buddy

We found Buddy (3 years) on a back road, abandoned and tightly chained up so he couldn’t follow his owner back home. It was a hot day, and he had no food or water. Neighbors said he had been howling out there for hours, but they didn’t see who had left him. We brought him back to the refuge. He was thin, sad, and nervous. Once he became adjusted to the routine at the Refuge, he stopped being fearful. Now he is happy, very affectionate, and ready for a new family.

Meet Chibi

We found 8-year old “Chibi” (“tiny” in Japanese) in a dumpster, shivering in the rain, bone-thin, and partially blind from cataracts. When we got her home, the other dogs attacked her because she was not well. We kept her safe inside of a pen until her health improved, and we never left her alone when she was outside. Now, she has put on weight, but her eyesight got remains weak. We are giving her CBD oil and omega-3 oil, which seem to be improving her vision. The good news is she gets around just fine. She is playful and affectionate, and ready for her forever home.
